“As I’ve grown, my connection to nature, my ancestors, and the African diaspora has deepened. In Caribbean folklore, birds hold layered meanings; they serve as messengers between worlds, symbols of hope, and reflections of our blended heritage of Indigenous and African roots. The Saint Vincent Amazon parrot, the national bird of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, embodies this spirit with its vibrant colors mirroring those of the nation’s flag, a celebration of freedom and pride. In Jamaica, the Red-billed Streamertail, commonly known as the “Doctor Bird,” dazzles with its elegance and legend. Birds, ever free in flight, remind us to rise above limitations.
